Leo Orientation Day
Leo Orientation Day
is an annual event held by the Leo Club of Wesley Methodist School to create a
positive attitude and favorable impression on the club among the Leo members.
Other than that, this project will also educate our newly recruited members on
the roles of the members in the club as well as to obtain more knowledge about
Leo Clubs. This year, our Leo Orientation Day was held on the 16th
of January 2015 from 3.30 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. in the lecture theatre of Wesley
Methodist School Kuala Lumpur. The organizing committee for this event
consisted of five senior Leo members, including Leo Lye Ming Han as the
organizing chairperson, Leo Gan Hui Ying as the assistant organizing
chairperson and three committee members, Leo Marcus Tan Khai Weng, Leo Lim Wee
Xin and Leo Aishwarya Arul.
This year, we were
honoured to have the President of Lions Club of Ampang, Lion Natalie Gan Yen
Ling, Principal of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur, Madam Chia Loy Tian,
District Chairperson for Leo Clubs, Lion Foo See Yow, Immediate Past President
of Lions Club of Ampang, Lion Terrence Foo, Treasurer of Lions Club of Ampang,
Lion Teoh Choon Sing and one of our Leo Advisors, Lion Tan Poh Ling to attend
the event.
Before the event,
all Leo members gathered outside of the lecture theatre at approximately 3.25
p.m. and entered the lecture theatre at 3.30 p.m. We waited patiently for the
invited guests who arrived around 3.40 p.m.. After all the guests have been
seated, the emcees, Leo Aishwarya Arul and Leo Tan Wei Xin began with their
opening speech. The Presiding Officer, Lion Natalie Gan was invited to call the
meeting to order. Then, all the guests present rose upon the singing of the
Negaraku followed by the recitation of the Leo pledge. Then, a roll call took
place where the emcees read out the names of the guests present. The Lions
stood up and roared with all their spirit put in it when their names were
called.
After the roll
call, the Presiding Officer, Lion Natalie Gan was invited to present her
speech. Following Lion Natalie Gan’s speech was a speech from our beloved Principal,
Madam Chia Loy Tian. Her speech was regarding the long history of our Leo Club
in our school and how the club has done the school proud in many ways as well
as to encourage the members of the club to keep up the good reputation and the
proactive involvement in activities for the betterment of the community and the
country.
After the speeches
was the main program of this event. At approximately 4 p.m., Lion Foo See Yow
began the orientation session for the Leo members. He started off with an
inspiring video, followed by a talk on the structure of the Lion Clubs and Leo Clubs,
explaining the massive network of Lions and Leos in details. He then proceeded
to introduce many events held throughout the year by the Lions Clubs. For
example, the Youth Exchange Program where the Leos get to go on an exchange
homestay program to another country like Japan, learning about the local’s
cultures and strengthen bonds amongst fellow Leos at the same time. In the end,
he ended the orientation by urging all new Leo members to be very proactive in
serving the community and the country and wished our Leo Club all the best.
After Lion Foo’s
orientation, our club president, Leo Kok Jia Yunn presented the tokens of
appreciation to the guests present. The token of appreciation was a high
quality towel wrapped in a cupcake cup and attached to the towel was a button
that has the Leo logo on it. After the presentation of the tokens of
appreciation, the event was adjourned by our Presiding Officer, Lion Natalie Gan.
Guests were then invited to proceed to the canteen to have some light
refreshments which were toasted kaya flavoured bread accompanied with konyakku
jellies with longan flavor as well as tea and ribena to go with it. The guests
were accompanied by a few Board of Directors and our faculty advisors. The
remaining Leo members stayed in the lecture theatre for the next event, Leo
Camp opening ceremony. With that, the event ended with minimal problems.
