Chinese New Year - Friendship Day Sales
On the 26th
and 27th of February 2015 (Thursday and Friday), the Leo Club of
Wesley Methodist School held their Chinese New Year – Friendship Day Sales during
lower secondary and upper secondary break and lunch. The organising committee
consisted of five Leo members, who were Leo Goh Wei Chen as the organising
chairperson, Leo Lim You Xin as the assistant organising chairperson, and also
three committee members including Leo Wong Swee Yan, Leo Chay Jian Shen and Leo
Phoebe Cherng Fei Min. The objectives of this project were to raise the
enthusiasm of students for the Chinese New Year occasion and to appreciate one
another as each other's friend, as well as to raise funds for the club's future
activities. Food and items such as messages in ang paos, marshmallows dipped in
chocolate, Ribena Sprite and brownies with ice cream were sold.
Preparations
started back during the last December holidays where we had to plan and map out
what was to be sold and how it was to be sold. After initial plans, we then
wrote a proposal to be approved by the school Principal, Madam Chia Loy Tian. As
soon as the proposal was approved we were only allowed to start preparing for
the sale, such as preparing messages forms, supplying food, buying ingredients,
drawing posters and preparing for the promotional sketch and speech. Leo
members were briefed about their duties during the sales a day before the
event.
On the day
of the sales, the brownies and ice cream were stored in the canteen
refrigerator with the canteen staff's approval to ensure the brownies' texture
and to prevent the ice cream from melting. Six Leo members were given
permission to leave class early to make the necessary preparation for the sale
during each shift. 2 Leo members were assigned to mix the Ribena and Sprite at
the set ratio, while another 3 were told to prepare the brownies, without the
ice cream and put the marshmallows into a cup without the chocolate syrup. This
was to prevent the ice cream from melting too fast before anyone buys it. The
food were well prepared before students came for their respective break and
lunch. The Ribena Sprite drink sold very well and received a lot of attention
from students, while the marshmallows and brownies did not stand out too well
compared to the Ribena Sprite drink.
The Leo
members started cleaning up our work stations ten minutes before break and
lunch ended. The tables were cleared of everything and were wiped clean. All
wastage was disposed of properly. The cleanup took a longer time than expected
as we had many utensils to be organised but were mostly on time for assembly.
After the
two days of sales, we managed to sell out all of the Ribena Sprite drink with
some leftovers from the marshmallows and brownies. The Leo members' effort in
promoting the food and boosting the sales were greatly appreciated. We were
satisfied with what was sold.
