School Service '15
School Serve ’15 was a school service
project held on the 17th March 2015 (Tuesday) and 19th March
2015 (Thursday). The main objective of this project is to provide an
opportunity for the Leo members to make the school a better place to learn. An
organising committee consisting of five Leo members was elected. The Leo members
were Leo Lee Ee Xuan as the Organising Chairperson, Leo Heng Zi Ming as the
Assistant Organising Chairperson, Leo Shweta Eliza Zachariah, Leo Toh Zhiao Wei
and Leo Teng Koong Voon as the committee members.
Before the project was executed,
several discussions were held within the organising committee on what were the
areas that should be improve and beautified in the school. As the school had
just renovated the toilets, we decided to put up 'KEEP CLEAN, PLEASE FLUSH'
signs in the toilets in order to encourage the students to keep the brand new
toilets clean. We also decided to repaint the rusted pillars outside the
Kemahiran Hidup (KH) workshop. Materials such as paint and brushes were bought
and Leo members were also asked to volunteer to print the toilet signs.
The school service project began with
the painting of the rusty pillars at 12.30 p.m. and ended at 1.30 p.m. on 17th
March 2015. 7 Leo members were assigned to repaint the pillars. They placed
newspapers around the pillars to avoid staining the floor. They were given
gloves so that they would not stain their hands with the paint. As the pillars
were very tall, one of them had to climb up the ladder to paint the upper parts
of the pillars. The painting ended at around 1.15 p.m.. The Leo members soaked
the brushes in thinner and cleared all the newspapers for recycling. Everything
was packed before they were dismissed.
On the 19th of March 2015,
6 Leo members were allocated to paste toilet signs in each toilet cubicle for
both girls' and boys' toilets. They started with sticking double sided tape at
the back of the laminated toilet signs which were printed by the Leos at around
11.00 a.m.. Then, they were divided into a few groups to paste the signs behind
every door in the toilets. It only took 15 minutes to finish pasting all the
toilet signs around the school toilets.
Overall, all the activities were
carried out very well. The Leo members were very cooperative. I think that this
project can be further improved if better planning was carried out more efficiently
as well as the Leo members can be more proactive and volunteer themselves to
help out with the activities.
