On the 14th and 17th
of September, the Leo Club of Wesley Methodist School carried out a school
service project themed "Be(you)tiful". The objectives of this event
are to allow the students to understand that we should not let society’s
standards of perfections define who we are, and that being ourselves is the
most beautiful quality we can achieve. The project was organised by the
Community Service Director, Leo Natalie Ling Sze Jane, together with the assistant
organising chairperson, Leo Amanda Chan Boyee and Leo Martin Lye Jun Wei. The
committee members were Leo Ching Shu Wen, Leo Lim Sin Ye and Leo Tan Xiao Wei.
On the day of the project, announcement
regarding this event was made. The activities were held during the lower
secondary and upper secondary break and lunch. Several members on duty were
assigned to set up the statement board and voting board. Members on duty also
presented the jars containing the encouragement notes on the table and laid out
the bookmarks, containing inspiring quotes tidily. The students participated in
the statement board by writing statements on things that they love about
themselves. Some students who felt insecure about certain aspects in their
lives, namely “Body Image”, “Social Life”, “Intelligence” and “Confidence
Issues” also voted on that particular insecurity, and were given a note of
encouragement to boost up their self esteem.
Overall, the project received a
staggering response from the students with them actively and enthusiastically
participating in the activities. The Leo Club of Wesley Methodist School hopes
that the students had all taken something away from this project and start
being positive in their daily lives.
