Hospital Visitation to Insitut Jantung Negara 2016

On the 28th of May 2016, a group of 10 Leo members accompanied by 2 Leo faculty advisors visited the pediatric ward at Institut Jantung Negara to spend some time with the children there. There were about 7 children in total as most of the patients were under monitoring or have been discharged for the weekend. They were suffering from various heart complications or were post-operation children.

The project took place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Before we started with our planned activities, we were given a tour around the ward to be familiarised with the area. We got to know the children as we went bed by bed to pay them a visit along with one of the nurses working there.

During our visit, the members interacted with the children through some activities. We refrained from any physically challenging activities as the children were not suitable for such activities. Instead, we had a story telling session accompanied with a mini sketch, as well as an arts and craft session. The members treated the patience with all of their patience and love to ensure the children felt valued and treasured. At 11:20 a.m., the members went around asking the patients as well as their parents to write a note inside of an outlined drawing of their palm. This was a thank you note to all of the doctors and nurses who work tirelessly to take care of them.

Before we left, we also donated some storybooks and activity books as well as colour pencils to the pediatric ward. Then, we bid our goodbyes and left the hospital. The members had an eye opening experience and truly gained a lot through this visitation. It was definitely a meaningful visit and all the members went home with a new found joy of giving back to the community, even if it was just in the smallest way.
