On the 23rd and 24th of August, the Leo Club of Wesley Methodist School carried out a school service project themed "Dream XL", which means dream extra large. The main purpose of this event was to help students discover what their dreams are and to dream big. Other than that, the project is also aimed to encourage students to not let others discourage them from pursuing their dreams. It also allows them to understand what characteristics they need to have in order to achieve their dreams. "Dream XL" was orchestrated by our community service director, Leo Wong Xin Yi, with the aid of assistant organising chairperson, Leo Khoo Zi Qi, and was put together with help from Leo Sandy Ho Yen Xiu, Leo Hu Shing Ye, and Leo Lee Kai Jie.
On the day of the project, a short skit about believing in dreams was presented to all the students during morning assembly by a group of Leos in order to promote the event. The activities took place during the lower secondary and upper secondary break and lunch. The members on duty came down 10 minutes earlier before respective shifts to prepare the cork board, with which activities would be conducted. The board had one side designated for students to write their dreams down on wooden plaques and hang them up, and the other side had a maze game, in which students were given a small ball that they were required to place at the top of the maze, and then let it bounce and roll into one of four boxes at the bottom of the maze. Each box corresponded with a particular attribute that was necessary in order to make their dreams come true - determination, courage, patience, and resilience.
Participants were given bookmarks adorned with motivational quotes, based on the box that their ball fell into.
All in all, the project was a huge success, as many students actively and wholeheartedly engaged in the activities that were carried out. The Leo Club of Wesley Methodist School hopes that students who participated on the event left feeling inspired to pursue and accomplish their dreams with renewed fervour and passion.
