International Relationship Day 2019 - Just KID-ding

Just KID-ding!!

On the 11th of April 2019, the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School held its annual International Relationship Day at the Wesley Hall from 4.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. to close up our first ever International Relationship Week. The theme of the event "Just KID-ding", focuses on children and the importance of appreciating our childhood as we will grow up based on the nostalgic memories that we had. The objective of the event was to deepen the friendship between the LEO members of our school and the LEO members of other schools attending the event, and at the same time, to educate the audience and to raise awareness on the importance of one’s childhood. This event was led by the Organising Chairperson, LEO Lim Ka Yan, who was assisted by the Assistant Organising Chairperson, LEO Law Yu Xuan, along with committee members LEO Niklas Ng Zi Zhan, LEO Lew Tian An and LEO Wong Peh Bie.

Our emcees for the event.
The event began with a video presentation made by our own members, featuring various childhood characters. This was followed by the introduction of the emcees, who kept the audience entertained with their jokes and stories. After that was the singing of the national anthem and the recitation of the LEO pledge. The meeting was then called to order by the Presiding Officer, President of Lions Club of Ampang, Lion Joey Lee, which was followed by the roll call, where all the guests present stood up and gave three hearty roars when
their names or club names were called.

The opening dance performance.
There's young Isaac!
After all the formalities were
done, the opening dance performance surprised the
audience by entering from the
back door of the hall and dancing to "Another Day of the Sun"
from La La Land, where young Isaac - the main character, made
his appearance. After the dance ended, young Isaac remained on stage, where he complained that his childhood was boring and that he wished he was an adult already. The scene then changed to the present where the adult Isaac made a mistake in his job and got fired. Isaac returned home, feeling very upset. As he was switching between channels on the television, he came across a childhood-related channel and was suddenly sucked into the television channels.

Our favourite childhood characters.
The story was paused for a speech by the Organising Chairperson, LEO Lim Ka Yan, who expressed her deepest gratitude for everyone who made this event come to live. After that heart-warming speech, the story continued with Isaac coming across some childhood characters in the television channels, who were performing a few songs, which included "Sponge Bob Square Pants" and "Little Einstein". After their performance, Isaac then again complained about his boring childhood.

Oh no! Isaac is scared!
Dance performance.
The story was then paused again for a speech by the Principal of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International), Mr Wong Chee Keong, who shared his favourite childhood experiences with the audience. Back to the story, Isaac stumbled across a group of scary characters who performed a horror-themed dance and showed Isaac what a bad childhood looked like. Now, Isaac finally realised how lucky and happy his childhood was compared to others.

Then, there was a speech by the District Governor, Lion Michelle Mok, who encouraged the audience to appreciate their childhood. The speech was followed by a second video presentation, where the emcees interviewed several students regarding their childhood movies. An interactive session was then carried out where the audience had to answer fifteen childhood-related questions on “Kahoot!”. The winner of the session received some sweets. This was followed by the presentation of the tokens of appreciation to all the guests present at the event. The meeting was then adjourned by Lion Joey Lee. Lastly, the members returned to the hall for the finale performance, dancing to "We are all in this together" from High School Musical. Guests were then invited to the canteen for some light refreshments.

Overall, the event was a successful one and managed to encourage students to appreciate their childhood more and to help others who are experiencing difficulties in their childhood. A huge thank you to those who attended IR Day!
