Pre-Exam Event 2020: Pre-sent: Present

The committee behind it all.

On the 28th September 2020 to the 2nd October, the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School held its minor funding project for the fiscal year 2020/2021. The theme of the event was “Pre-sent: Present.” The word “Pre-sent” is separated because “Pre” stands for before exams, and “sent” represents how each gift is delivered to an individual by their friends as a form of encouragement or simply as a motivation to not back down but face their upcoming challenges. “Present” stands for the gift that will be given to their friends as a sign of good luck. This event was led by the Organizing Chairperson, LEO Tham Zhan Chern, who was assisted by the Assistant Organizing Chairperson, LEO Low Wei Tong, along with committee members LEO Tan Li Xuan, LEO Yau Jing Xiang and LEO Alicia Lee Yoke Yoong. The aim of this event was to relieve the students' stress and to help prepare the them for the upcoming exams. The aim was also to raise funds for the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School’s  future community service projects.

Prior to 28th September 2020, a Google form was sent out to the whole school for those who wished to order their care packages for themselves, teachers, or friends. A total of  5 different care packages were sold that consisted of pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, protractors, sticky notes, Dairy Milk, SoChew Candy, Pizza Snacks, Teddy Biscuits, Super Ring and Sour Candy with prices ranging from RM5-RM6 per package. Besides that, we had a donation drive within the club to buy the teachers’ package for 90 teachers in the school to express our gratitude for guiding us in our studies.

On Tuesday and Thursday Lower Secondary Break and Upper Secondary Lunch, we held a game called “Jumpshot” at the Assembly Ground while also adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures. The game's participation fee was RM2. Students were given 1 minute to shoot as many basketballs into the hoop to win the game. Prizes such as candies were awarded to those who participated. The game was facilitated by the LEO members, committee members and the Board of Directors that were on duty.

Care packages!
For all five days of the event, the LEO members, committee members and the Board of Directors arrived at school at 7:00 a.m. and started the days off by arranging the pre-ordered packages and delivering them to the respective classes. Tasks were delegated accordingly and by 7:50 a.m. all orders were delivered and distributed. The LEO members, committee members and the Board of Directors packed up and headed back to their classes before lessons started at 8:00 a.m. On the 28th September 2020, all of the Board of Directors collected the money from students that pre-ordered the care packages from us. All collected money was then passed to the Treasurer for safekeeping.

To sum it all up, this event was a successful one as we managed to raise sufficient funds for the club. It also achieved the aim of relieving students from their stress for the upcoming exams. The members of the LEO Club managed to gain new skills and bond among each other. We are grateful for the staff, teachers and students who have supported our event, and the members for their hard work and dedication.
