LEO Camp 2023: World Vision 30 Hours Famine Challenge ‘Strike for Hunger’
The participants were gathered at the Wesley Hall at 3:45p.m and we started off the event with the opening ceremony. It was an honour to have Mdm. Gan Swit Peng to grace the opening ceremony of our event, as well as a representative of the World Vision organisation, Ms. Tian Choon Ling (Ninian), who also gave a speech to encourage our LEO members to persevere throughout the challenge. To wrap up the opening ceremony, a mock cheque of total donations from LEO members and teachers, which totalled up to RM16232.15, was presented to Ms. Ninian.
The next day, we started off with a morning devotion and light morning exercises to liven up the atmosphere and get the members ready for the day. We then conducted a school service project, which involved the cleanup of Block A, which we used for our dorms, the LEO Room and the staff toilets to show our appreciation towards the grit and effort of the staff and management team of the school to keep it running each day. We then had a short break, before continuing with Fun Night I from 2.00p.m to 3.30p.m, where members planned a skit themed about hunger using one of the phrases assigned to them. A short session of Hide and Seek was then held to add some variation to the activities. After that, Fun Night II was conducted from 5.30p.m to 6.30p.m, where the members presented their skits. Members were then given a short break to settle their bags, dorms and clean up themselves. Then, they returned to the Wesley Hall at 8.00p.m for a Movie Night session, where the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was shown.
The closing ceremony started at 10.30 p.m and it was truly an honour to have the pleasure of Leo-Lion Yip Wei Jian as our Guest of Honour. Prizes were also given to the highest donor, winners of the icebreakers, Mystery Night and Fun Night Skit competitions. At 11.00p.m, the members concluded their 30 hour fast by breaking it with some bread, after which they were permitted to return home. Overall, the camp proved to be a success, deepening the LEO members’ understanding of the global mission to combat hunger and fostering enjoyable interactions that strengthen our club’s comradeship.
