LEO Camp 2012 & UNO; The Game of Life 2012
Group division
On the 16th
to the 17th of March, the Leo members of Wesley Methodist School
gathered for our annual Leo Camp. Registration started at 8.00a.m at the
assembly ground. After taking our attendance, Mdm. Chia Loy Tian our guest of
honour gave her speech. After that all of us went up to the chapel for the
group division.
Group division starts
at 8.45a.m. All members were then divided into seven groups by Lee Wen Yi who
is the organizing chairperson of this event. Each of the groups has a theme,
which are L, E, O, C, A, M and P respectively. The themes will make up the
phrase ‘LEO Camp’. After the group division, all the members went into their
groups and have to create a name starting with the letter given together with
their very own war cry.
At 9.10a.m., all the
groups came up with their group name. Group 1, which used the letter L, came up
with ‘Lightning’. Group 2 came up with ‘EPIC’ which was supposed to mean
‘Extreme People In Camp’ whereas Group 3’s was ‘Oreo’. Then there were
‘Celebrity’ from Group 4, ‘Awesome’ from Group 5, ‘M & M’ from Group 6 and
‘Pacesetter’ from Group 7.
Besides the group name,
all the groups were also required to create their own war cry. All the war cry
created was related to their group name and they could be anything depending on
the creativity of the groups. After that, all the groups went out to perform
their war cry to all the Leo members.
Ice Breaking
Ice breaking event started at
9.35 a.m. The first ice breaking game is to test how well you know your fellow
Leo members. Seven groups were divided into two straight lines. We sat facing
our backs to the opposite site. The facilitators and teachers choose one person
form each line and seat face to face with the blanket in between them. The
blanket will be held up by the facilitators. The members will have to say out
the name of the person sitting opposite them the moment when the facilitators
drop the blanket. The person facing the opponent must say out their name as
fast as possible. The first one to say out the name wins. At the end, winners
had the opportunity to determine what type of punishment should be given to the
loser.

After that we carried on with the
second ice breaking game, each group need to form a circle and one of the
members from our group has to stand in the middle of the circle with a stick in
his hand. Group members must say out other member’s name from our group before
the person standing in the middle hits you with the stick in his hand. If he
hits one of the members with the stick, the person who got hit by the person
standing in the middle must then replace his place
Through these games, we had
improved our relationship between the Leo members and start to know about each
other more. This activity also trained us to speak up and giving out ideas
during discussion. We also understand our fellow Leo members more.
Bonding sessions
After ice breaking, all members
designed our own letterbox at 11.25 a.m. All Leo members are encouraged to
write about what they want to say to anyone in the camp using a small piece of
paper then placed it inside their letterbox. Until the camp is over, Leo
members are then allowed to open their letterbox.
At 11.45 a.m., everyone needs to
design their own camp shirt. Leo members were provided with a plain color
t-shirt and they are required to design their own camp shirt including their
group name. Paint and newspaper were provided by the facilitators. After finished
painting our own shirts, shirts were then hung outside of the chapel the let
the paint dry off. After that we worked together to cleaned up the stain that
was accidentally made by some of the members.
After designing of camp shirt, we went to
canteen for lunch. Lunch starts at 12.30p.m. We waited for teachers and all the
Leo members to get their food before we start eating.
At 1.30p.m., we started practice
for the charity concert. It started off with the act first, then continued with
the dance performances. We ran through the whole performances section.
After a short practice for the Charity Concert, the Leo members gathered
at the Chapel at 3 o’clock to start the station games wearing the t-shirts
designed earlier in the afternoon. All the participants were briefed about the
rules of the game, how to play the games and so on. 11 stations have been set
up. All participants will have to complete at least the tasks of 6 stations.
After completing all 11 game stations, groups may repeat task at the stations
as many times as they like. There are no limited number of times a group is
allowed to play at a station. Groups may play as many times as they wish to
obtain more points.Groups must gather back at the Chapel in three hours. Marks
will be deducted from those who arrive late. All groups will be given tags with
numbers on it. Behind these tags indicate the locations of the numbered
stations and the station masters in charge. Groups must not change stations as
they wish and must refer to facilitator Kimberly Ling for a different tag with
a different number on it. These tags also indicate which stations are available.
Before being set off to carry out the tasks, each group will pick a
leader and will be given an envelope containing a paper. The paper is used for
the station master to sign once the task at the respective stations. After the
short briefing, the Leo members set out to begin their game
With all the different station
games going on, we had learnt how to work together among ourselves and
supporting our own group members during the games. After that, we had break. At
6.45p.m., all Leo members went down canteen to have our dinner.
Mystery game
The mystery game was
the last event held on Friday night. This game required a lot of thinking
skills, common sense and team work as it is based on daily events. All the
groups were supposed to investigate a case and to interview the characters in
it to get vital clues. This game started off with some of the Form 5 LEO
members acting. It was also a preview of what type of case we were going to be
investigating.
The character taking time to take photographs
Before the game
started, each group was given an envelope which contains papers for the group
to write down their answer. Then we were supposed to investigate the characters
that were and were not in the sketch. That includes other characters that we
needed to find out ourselves. Through the interviews, we were able to collect
clues and find out who was behind the murder of Dr. Pzifer Phiphep. During the
interview, clues were scattered around for us to find out.
This game was a bit
tricky since there were additional characters that were not important but still
managed to trick the groups in wasting their time interviewing them. There were
also fake clues scattered around to confuse the groups. As a result, only three
out of seven groups found out the real characters behind the murder.
Overall, the mystery
game was a very exciting game. Besides having fun, all the members also learned
how to be patient when we are interviewing someone and to help others who are
in need. It also successfully help bond the members together because team work
was such an important aspect in the game.

After the mystery game, Lee
Wen Yi dismissed us from the chapel and all the Leo members went to take shower
at 11.15p.m. At 12.00a.m., all Leo members went to bed. Facilitators also went
to every room and check every room has their lights off. Facilitators also need
to check if all Leo members were in their respective dorm.
Saturday, 17th of March 2012
On the second day of Leo Camp, all the Leos gathered at the
assembly ground at around 5.15 am for morning exercise. We were all feeling
extremely tired from the activities that was held on the day before. We lined
up according to our groups before beginning. Once all the members were present,
the facilitators turned on the music and we did some stretching routines and
ran a few rounds around the school. After that, we also did some jumping jacks
to increase our energy level and to keep us alert throughout the day. We did
some exercises in pairs, too.
Overall, the morning exercises were
a great activity to start off the day. It kept all of us energized. We had a
wonderful time although it was tiring.
After breakfast, we started
preparing for UNO, The Game of Life. The event was held from 7.30am until about
1pm. It was a fun event and the Leos got to bond among themselves. When all
Leos were present at the canteen, we had our lunch.

Talent Time
We assembled at the chapel once more
at around 2.15pm. Then, we had our Talent Time performance session. Every group
had a lucky draw the day before to find out the theme of their sketch. The
various themes were Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, The
Incredible Hulk and X-Men.
All of the groups did a fantastic
job performing their respective acts. They added many elements of comedy which
filled the chapel with laughter. They also twisted the storylines to fit their
group name, which showed off their creativity. The other Leos who were in the
audience were respectful to the ones who were performing. They clapped and gave
support to their club mates and watched the performances with a lot of joy,
which made the entire session much more enjoyable.
When all the groups have performed
their respective sketches, Isaac Miranda, who was the main organizer of the
mystery game took over and explained the story to us while the judges
calculated the points for Talent Time. Isaac told us the answer of the mystery
game, and answered many of our questions and doubts about the game. He also
taught us the moral values we could learn from the game, such as to be
observant, and to be good at critical thinking, knowing the difference between
important details and irrelevant ones.
He then told us the groups who obtained the highest points for the
mystery game, which were groups 4, 1 and 2.

Sharing Session
After that, we had our sharing
session. This sharing session was to give an opportunity to the Leos to share
their experiences throughout the camp, what they learned and what they thought
of the camp overall. The priority was given to the junior members, as it was
their first Leo camp. About 7 members shared their experience. The sharing
session was filled with much laughter as the members reminisce about their
experience the past two days. Those who shared claimed that they definitely got
closer to many of the other Leo members, and found their true passion of being
a part of the club.
Presentation of prizes
All good things must come to an end.
Before the Leos were dispersed, the prizes for the top three groups were given
out. 3rd place had gone to Group 4 (Celebrities), 2nd
place was Group 5 (Awesome) and 1st place was Group 1 (Lightning).
The prizes were given out by Mdm Norasimah and Mdm Chelvi. Group photographs
were then taken to aid them in their report. After that, Leo camp 2012 came to
an end.
Presentation
of prizes to the winning group!!
Leo camp this year was very efficiently
planned. The objectives were met and everyone truly had a great time. I believe
that every single one of the members of Leo club got much closer even though it
was a short camp. The spirit of Leo is definitely cultivated among all the
members, especially the juniors. I hope that next year’s camp will be able to
meet the expectations that were set this year, and ultimately get to change the
hearts and lives of the Leos. We would like to thank the camp committee for
organizing such a fun camp.
