WMS LEO Charity Concert 2012 - Share 4 Life On Vibrant Earth
Leo Charity Concert
On the 31st of March, the Leo Club of Wesley Methodist
School organized a
charity concert. The event was our club’s annual community service project and
the aim of this concert was to raise public awareness about the environment as
well as protecting and preserving wildlife. All the members arrived in school
at 8 am to make final preparations for the concert on the day. A full rehearsal
was even done to prepare for the concert that was going to be held tonight. The
guests arrived at 6 pm and collected their tickets at the registration counter.
The guests were allowed to enter the school at 6.30 pm and the event officially
started at 7pm. The emcees for the event were Leo Andrea Tan and Leo Kathreena
Korotuna.
For the opening act, a student of the school, Chloe Soh gave
an amazing singing performance which really got the crowd going. Our ex
student, Kheng Yew along with our current students, Eugene Yeo and Charmaine
Yeo too gave us an intriguing singing performance.

Afterwards, the guest of honor, Madam Evelyn was asked to
give a speech. The event was officially declared open when our organizing chairperson,
Community Service Director Leo Lim Sheen-Le finished giving her truly inspiring
speech.

Tokens of
appreciation were presented to our VIP guests who included Lions from our
sponsoring Lion Club. Our members then presented an act about animal abuse,
deforestation and pollution. We showed humans being mutated as earth has become
completely polluted. The mutated humans then performed a dance called the Sad
Dance to express their regret toward polluting the environment. Then, one human
who seems to have not been mutated is shown leading the humans in correcting
their ways, telling everyone it’s not too late to stop and make a change. The
now non mutated humans then presented a dance called the Happy Dance to express
their happiness towards saving the environment. A heart shape was formed from
pieces of hearts by the Happy Dancers and the Sad Dancers at the end of the
Happy Dance. We could tell that the crowd truly enjoyed the act. Afterwards, it
was intermission and all the guests were invited down to the school canteen for
some snacks and light refreshments.

At 8.45 pm, the guests returned to the school hall for the
second half of our club’s charity concert. The second half of the charity
concert was started off with a video presentation in conjunction with our
club’s 10th year anniversary. It was a nostalgic moment for all the
Leo members past and present as they look back at how it all started and how
much the club has grown in the past 10 years. The guests were then treated to a
band performance by our very own Leo members, Leo Tham Jia Vern, Leo Lau Jia
Cherng, Leo Yap Woei Cong, Leo Yong Jing Ting, Leo Kelvin Yap and Leo Wilfred
Cheah. They performed three popular songs, The Great Escape, Iridescent and
Pumped Up Kicks. The guests enjoyed it and sang along as well.

Afterwards, A.RON
presented a beatbox and rapping performance which was truly welcomed by the
crowd. Once, another one of our ex students, Kristen Chee gave a magnificent
solo singing performance to wow the crowd. Then, two of the students from our
school, Melisa Rahman and Hervena Kumar gave an amazing dance performance. We
were all truly amazed at how well they could dance.

Our school band, BlackOut was then giving their turn to
perform. They perform three songs, All Star, Knocking on Heaven’s Door and Song
Two. The crowd sang along and you could feel the place jumping. The lead
vocalist of the popular band, Wanted Symphony then performed a few songs. They
couldn’t perform as a band as their drummer could not make it due to some
unforeseen circumstances much to the disappointment of the crowd. Sadly, all
good things must come to an end. For the finale, all the Leo members went up on
stage and sang to the song We Are World. We managed to get the crowd to sing
along with us and we truly concluded this event on a high.

At 10.40 pm, the event officially ended. All the members
stayed back to help clear up the hall and clean up the classroom they used as
changing rooms. The members then went down to the canteen for some light
refreshments and snacks. Everyone clearly tired out but it was great experience
for them to organize such a big event.
The event was a success and we could see that guests truly
enjoyed themselves. We managed to raise over RM 10000 which will be donated to
charity. Although some problems did surface during the concert, we managed to
solve the problem by keeping a cool head and using proper judgment. The members
fulfilled their duties well and we could see all the members working together
to make this event a success. I hope that the spirit shown by the members will
continue in future club projects. We would also like to thank the Lions from
our sponsoring Lions Club, the Lions Club of Ampang for attending and
supporting us throughout this event.
