Leo Camp 2016

On the 21st and 22nd of October 2016, the Leo Club of Wesley Methodist School organised a Leo Camp for the club members in the school’s compound. The camp was planned by the organising chairperson, Leo Chia Kye Shean, along with the assistant organising chairperson, Leo Estee Tai, and their committee, which consisted of Leo Ng Li Hui, Leo Liew Dong Xun, Leo Wong Kit Wai, Leo Amanda Lim, and Leo Chee Gee Ren. A total of 61 participants along with 16 facilitators and 5 teacher advisors were involved in this camp. The theme of this camp is “Meow Today, Roar Tomorrow”. “Meow Today” signifies the voices of young Leo members who strive for a leadership opportunity. “Roar Tomorrow” signifies that through this camp, we would be able to produce future Leo members who turn their ‘meows’ into ‘roars’, voicing their opinions bravely.  The main purpose of the camp is to form a strong bond between Leo members, to promote leadership as well as teamwork, and also to enable the members to think critically as well as logically.

The camp started off with the explanation of its theme, for the understanding of the members. It was followed by a speech given by the Vice Principal, Mr. Amaranathan. Tokens of appreciation were then presented to the guests who attended the opening ceremony. After that, the facilitators briefed the participants about the rules and regulations of the camp.

The first activity was ice breakers, which allowed the members to get to know one another and form strong relationships between them. After dinner, the next activity was Mystery Night, which enabled the participants to work in their groups and come up with a logical conclusion to solve the mystery based on the clues given throughout the activity. Soon after, the first day of camp ended.

The next day started off with morning exercises early in the morning. After breakfast, the first activity was carried out, which was Team Building Activity. There were various different stations with different activities within the school compound, and each station had a different number which the participants had to collect in order to solve the code. The first three groups who solved the code the fastest would get more points. This activity promoted teamwork among Leo members as they had to work together to complete the given task at each station within a set amount of time. After team-building, all the participants were divided into groups of three, and worked together to repaint the school’s basketball and volleyball courts as part of our school service project. After giving the participants a break, the last activity carried out was station games. Each station was at a different location, and the participants had to cooperate with their group members to finish the task given at every station as fast as possible to obtain higher points.

Finally, the camp came to an end with the closing ceremony. Prizes were given out to the top three groups who had the most points throughout the camp, which was then followed by an open-mic session. Many members came out to talk about their experiences, and what they had learnt from this camp. It was pleasing to hear that all the participants had enjoyed the camp very much as they got to bond closer and gain many valuable qualities through camp.
