School Service '16
A school service project was held on the 22nd of
October (Saturday) by the Leo Club of Wesley Methodist School. This project was
aimed to give a chance for the Leo members to make the school a better place to
learn, and also to give the school a refurbished look by repainting the
volleyball court and basketball courts between Block A and D. As it was held on
the same day as Leo Camp, the project was also planned by the camp committee,
and led by the organising chairperson, Leo Teo Boon Kee.
Careful planning was carried out before the project was
executed. The club decided to repaint outlines of the courts as the current paint
marks of the two courts had faded. This was so that students would be able to
play their games actively and comfortably during their physical education
lessons. Materials such as paint, brushes and tape were bought beforehand.
At 9.15 a.m., the members were divided into groups of three.
The project started off with the members sticking tape onto the courts. The
purpose of sticking tape was to act as a border so that they would be properly
outlined before painting them. The members finished sticking all the tape by
lunchtime, and were ready to paint after taking a break. Newspapers were placed around the courts to
avoid staining the floor. The members painted the courts carefully, and all of
them delegated their tasks so that the project could be carried out efficiently.
The painting ended at around 2.45 p.m. The Leo members then soaked the brushes
in thinner and cleared all the newspapers for recycling. Everything was cleaned
up properly before the members moved on to their next activity.
As a result, all the activities were carried out smoothly
and effectively. The members had cooperated well, and learnt how to work
together in order to achieve their goal. The courts looked very well
refurbished after the project, and the Leo members’ hard work had definitely
paid off.
