Leo Camp 2018

On the 5th to the 6th of January 2018, the Leo Club of Wesley Methodist School organised a Leo Camp for its members within the school compound. It was planned and executed by organising chairperson Leo Tam Her Nie, along with her assistant organising chairperson, Leo Khoo Zi Qi, with invaluable support from committee members Leo Andrea Goh Ern-Rey, Leo Lee Kai Jie, Leo Low Yan Yi, Leo Wong Yen Ling, and Leo Wong You Jian. The camp was attended by a total of 64 Leo members, 16 camp facilitators, and 4 teacher advisors. The theme of this camp was “Alpha Regulus”, which is the brightest star in the Leo constellation and is also known the heart of the lion. As Leo members, we should all share this spirit of the lion to create a strong foundation for the juniors to help them develop and grow so we can shine brighter as a club for our community.  The main purposes of this project are to form a strong bond between Leo members, promote leadership as well as teamwork among Leo members and to train Leo members to think critically as well as logically.

At 3:45 p.m. on Friday, the camp started off with the explanation of its theme to the participants. It was followed by a speech given by the Vice Principal, Mr. Amaranathan. A token of appreciation was then presented to Mr. Amaranathan. After that, the facilitators briefed the participants about the rules and regulations of the camp.

The first activity which was carried out was an ice breaking session during which participants played games within the assembly ground and created their respective teams’ war cries. This session helped the participants to get to know each other better and ease the timidity and nervousness among participants. After dinner, the following activity was Mystery Night, which required camp participants work together in teams in order to solve a mystery based on clues given throughout the activity. Soon after, participants retired to their dormitories and the first day of camp ended.

The second day started off with morning exercise early in the morning. After breakfast, a station games session was held. This activity promoted teamwork among Leo members as they had to work together to complete the games at each station in pursuance of higher points. Consequently, a group performance session was carried out. Each team was given a specific topic and had to plan and present a short sketch in accordance to the theme. After going for lunch break, the last activity carried out was Team Building Games. The participants had to cooperate with their group members to compete with other teams to obtain higher points.

Finally, the camp came to an end with the closing ceremony. Prizes were given out to the top three groups who scored the highest points throughout the camp. All in all, the Leo Camp was a smooth success as participants definitely developed stronger bonds between one another and gained memories that they will cherish.
