Y.E.S Camp
Group "Dark Horse"! |
On the 7th of December 2018 to the 10th of December 2018, a member from the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School attended Y.E.S Camp, themed “Love, share and care”, which was held in Outbac Broga Negeri Sembilan.
The event began with the opening ceremony, which consisted of an opening speech by Lion Dato’ Javern Lim and a speech by Lion Foo. Following that was the officiation of the YES Camp logo and the officiation of the camp, along with the introduction of the camp committee. Members were then given a briefing about the house rules before the ice breaking session started. Many activities were carried out during the camp. Outdoor activities such as survival race, which included several team building games and building a raft, waterfall abseiling, waterfall rock climbing, rock climbing, flying fox, leap of faith, and bouldering managed to challenge the members both physically and mentally. There were also Y.E.S key sessions, which were presentations prepared by the facilitators about the ten Y.E.S keys: “speaking with good purpose”, “commitment”, “contentment”, “this is it”, “failure leads to success”, “integrity”, “ownership”, “gratitude”, “balance” and “flexibility”. The facilitators who were presenting used games and videos to help portray their message to the members. There were also many questions and answers session to encourage the members to engage with their respective groups.
A group presentation was carried out during the first day of the camp, where each group performed their group cheer and presented their group name. The second day of camp started early with a morning walk, where the members climbed Mount Broga. Later that night, there was the “Know Me Better” session, where all the lights were turned off and members sat together in their own groups. Each member was given five minutes to speak of anything they want, and the other members had to listen and were not allowed to respond to the person speaking. The main objective of this session was to encourage the members to open up and to get something, either a burden or a secret, off their chest. Members were not allowed to bring up anything that was said during the session so whatever that was said during the session stays within the session. The third and last night of the camp was performance night, where each group was given a Y.E.S key to perform. The groups were allowed to portray their Y.E.S key in any form but many did a skit performance. On the last day, the members gathered together in their respective groups and had a vulnerable and honest session, where notes of encouragement were shared between the members and the members each did their own evaluation about their time throughout the camp. The event came to an end with the closing ceremony, along with the prize giving ceremony. There was a photography session before the members departed in their own separate ways.
Overall, the event managed to improve the relationship between the LEO members from various clubs and managed to remind the members what being a LEO member is really about. In the end, the members were also able to learn important and useful values that are not usually taught and learnt from textbooks.
