Our senior members getting blindfolded for a surprise! |
On the 31st of August 2019, the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School held its 17th Annual Farewell at Skyark Event Space from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. The theme chosen this year was “Lights, Camera, LEO!” The senior members were portrayed as movie stars and celebrities in a gig, from only observing the club from the outside to becoming members of the LEO Club that experienced the ups and downs of the LEO journey until they became great club members that contributed to the many successful events. This event is like an after-party to say goodbye to the seniors that played their part in the movie and that the show will go on in the hands of the junior members. This event was organised by the Organising Chairperson, LEO Wong Yen Ming, who was assisted by the Assistant Organising Chairperson, LEO Tan Cheng Ping together with the committee members LEO Tan Yu Shen, LEO Lee Eryn and LEO Teoh Zhi Yuan.
The event began with an opening dance by the junior members. The name of the dance was “Be Our Guest,” which signifies the junior members serving the senior members, our guests, who have been serving the community for the past two fiscal years. After the opening dance, the emcees then gave a warm welcome to the senior members and invited the LEO Farewell Committee Members to give their speech. Then, there was a second dance called “A LEO's Journey,” which shows the journey of a LEO junior member and how the senior LEO members guided us along. Following the dance, there was a meal interval where everyone enjoyed the food that was served.
After that, the members got ready for the speech that was given by our club president of the fiscal year 2019/2020, LEO Esther Sue Greenall. After that, there was a surprise performance performed by the Board of Directors of the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School 2019/2020 to entertain the senior members. After the performance, past president Lan Yuen Qi gave her speech, followed by the seniors’ singing performance to bring back the sweet memories they made throughout the fiscal year 2018/2019. The members were then entertained by another video presentation with the title “Types Of LEOs”. Throughout the video there was laughter and the atmosphere was filled with joy.
Following the video presentation, there was a game session and all the members enjoyed it. There were many games such as What’s in the Box, a round of Kahoot asking questions that were related to this year’s theme, Chubby Bunny, Try Not to Laugh challenge, Balloon Cup game, Guess the Song challenge and Guess the Pringles challenge. After the game session ended, the LEO Awards Ceremony began. There were seven award categories: Most Done with Everything, Brought the Most Betterment to Their Community and Country, Most Dead On the Inside, Now You See Me, Now You Don’t, Most Likely to Win the Lottery Ticket and Lose the Ticket, and LEO of the Year for both Male and Female. The awards were given by both of our club Faculty Advisors, Mr. Lee Sek Khoon and Mr. Naresh Manickavasagam. A special prize was also given to Woong Jia Hui, a senior LEO member, followed by the Token of Appreciation for the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School’s Faculty Advisors as a way for the farewell committee to express their gratitude towards their contribution. After the awards ceremony, LEO Farewell 2019 came to an end after the end credits slides were displayed for the closing ceremony followed by a group photo of all members.
To sum up, the event was a successful one as we managed to say goodbye to our beloved senior members.
