18th Annual Installation: Roar to the Distance

On the 8th September (Tuesday), the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School held its 18th Annual Installation at the Dutton Hall from 3.40 p.m. to 6.00p.m. The theme chosen for this year was “Roar To The Distance”. The word "Roar" resembles the members' determination and enthusiasm towards the future. It also marks the start of a new era as members are being installed. The phrase "To The Distance" represents our defiant act towards all sorts of "darkness" that surrounds us today. It inspires the juniors to be ready and steadfast for the beginning of the fiscal year. This theme aims to encourage all LEOs to be committed and to uphold the club's name with a burning passion within them.

This event was led by the Organizing Chairperson, LEO Joshua Chong Yong Ping who was assisted by the Assistant Organizing Chairperson, LEO Chan Qian Qin together with committee members LEO Ashley Foo Sheng Min, LEO Teoh Han Yang and LEO Wong Xin Ping Xandra. 

The event began with the Presiding Officer, President of the Lions Club of Ampang, Lion Lighter Chee calling the meeting to order.  Following that was the singing of the national anthem, and the Outgoing President, LEO Esther Sue Greenall led us in the recitation of the LEO pledge. Then, the recognition of the Lion dignitaries was led by the emcees and the Presiding Officer and President of Lions Club of Ampang, Lion Lighter Chee presented his speech. A video presentation made by a small group of LEO members was then presented, highlighting various events organized throughout the fiscal year 2019/2020.

Mr. Wong Chee Kheon, Guest of Honour and Principal of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International), then began the ceremony of presentation of certificates as well as testimonials to the outgoing senior members of the club. This was done to appreciate the efforts made by the seniors as well as their commitments given to the club. Next up, a speech was given by the Outgoing President, LEO Esther Sue Greenall. Following that, the junior members were initiated by the 2nd Vice District Governor, Lion Dorothy Ong and after that came the installation of the incoming Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2020/2021 by the District Governor, Lion Kenny Low. The members each received a certificate, together with a LEO pin and a LEO vest, and were welcomed with the traditional “three lion roars” in which they responded in the same manner with much enthusiasm. Soon after, the Incoming President of the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School, LEO Joshua Chong Yong Ping made his speech, and following that a speech from the Guest of Honour and Principal of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International), Mr. Wong Chee Kheon. After his speech, the District Governor, Lion Kenny Low and President of Lions Club of Ampang, Lion Lighter Chee presented gifts to Mr. Wong Chee Kheon.

To lighten up the atmosphere, one of our very own members, LEO Jayshen a/l Ratnadurai, performed the song "Roar" with his guitar. His wonderful performance represented the energy and enthusiasm each member has as we head towards a new fiscal year of fun and grit. After that, Mr. Lee Sek Khoon, the faculty advisor of the club presented tokens of appreciation to the VIPs present.  The event was then adjourned by the Presiding Officer and President of Lions Club of Ampang, Lion Lighter Chee. Lastly, guests were invited to the canteen for refreshments.

In conclusion, the event was a successful one with a formal send off for the senior members as well as a warm welcome to the newly installed members and the Board of Directors of the fiscal year 2020/2021.

46th MD LEO Forum

We won some awards! Ten members from the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School had attended the 46th MD LEO Forum from the 25th to the 27th of May 2018 at Trove Hotel, Johor Bahru. The theme for this year’s forum was “Joint, Humanity, Balance”, which aimed to encourage joint learning through experience, empower compassion for a better society and equality in the society by fulfilling our own voluntary services. Pyjamas Party. The forum began with an opening ceremony. Then, all LEOs were briefed about some home and safety rules. This was followed by an ice breaking session and cultural activity, where the LEOs were separated into groups of eight and each explored their creativity in decorating a batik cloth. At 7.00 p.m., all LEOs gathered back in the ballroom, dressed in their fanciest pyjamas for fellowship night, themed “Pyjamas Party”. Charity Night 2023: Hearts VS Spades

  On December 15, 2023, Friday, the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School hosted its first Charity Night event in 5 years at HGH Convention Centre Sentul. The primary objective of this event was to raise funds for the community of people struggling with diabetes and to raise awareness about their challenges. Additionally, it aimed to instil a sense of teamwork, responsibility, and devotion among LEO members towards the club. The theme for this year’s event, ‘Hearts Vs Spades’, symbolises the relentless battle waged by warriors worldwide against the dreaded adversary of diabetes.  Diabetes, a chronic affliction characterised by high sugar levels in the bloodstream, is no ordinary foe. As we unite under this captivating emblem, we shine a spotlight on the valiant struggles of those grappling to stabilise their blood glucose levels and continue to live another day.
