LeoFest 2025: Illuminight

On Saturday, the 1st of March 2025, the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School hosted its first ever LeoFest in its history at Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International). The primary objective of the event was to raise funds for Mercy Malaysia’s humanitarian and medical aid initiatives, and also to raise awareness about their missions. Additionally, it aimed to provide participating students and parents with opportunities to engage in a series of unique games, so that they could experience what a carnival feels like. This year’s theme, Illuminight, showcased the idea of bringing light and hope during dark and challenging times. It also emphasises the importance of providing support and aid to those affected by disasters, helping to illuminate their path to recovery.

For this event, LEO members worked tirelessly for months, preparing decorations and brainstorming ideas to improve LeoFest. LEO members had prepared numerous games, including the classic icon of a carnival — a dunk tank. Many foods were also prepared along with the games, and they could be purchased with coupon booklets priced at RM50 each. Tokens could be collected after winning a game, and in return, those tokens would be exchanged for prizes at the prize booth.

The organising committee for this event consisted of the Organising Chairperson, LEO Shannon Ong, assisted by the Assistant Organising Chairpersons, LEO Jenelle Ho and LEO Ng Kye Jin, along with committee members LEO Ma Wen Xuan, LEO Lim Ing Shean and LEO Ryan Cheah. Once the event was approved and checked off by Mr Lim Chee Ho, the organising committee swiftly began their preparations for the event.

The event commenced with remarkable enthusiasm, achieving impressive sales of over 150 booklets. Attendees were treated to a diverse array of engaging activities that catered to all age groups, ensuring a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Among the highlights was the renowned haunted house, The Phantom Escape, which offered thrill-seekers an exhilarating journey through its eerie corridors. For those keen on testing their precision, the archery game Bullseye Bonanza provided an excellent opportunity to showcase their skills. Guests also had the chance to capture cherished moments at the Snapshot Spectacle photo booth, equipped with an array of fun props and backgrounds. Interactive activities like face painting and a lantern grove in tribute to the cause of disaster relief added to the festive atmosphere, allowing guests to express their creativity and take home personalized souvenirs.

For the LEO juniors, this marked their second major undertaking, and it was nothing short of transformative. From the planning stages to the final moments of the event, they showcased impressive teamwork, leadership, and resilience. The experience helped them grow not only as individuals but also as a cohesive unit committed to serving the community.

The event ultimately proved to be a remarkable success, not only in terms of fundraising but also in its broader impact. A total of RM 3,117.88 was raised, a testament to the hard work, dedication, and unity of everyone involved.

This amount will be combined with the proceeds from two other events: Urban Escape and International Relationship Day (IR). The total sum of RM15,558.45 will be donated to three organisations: the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM), the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB), and the Malaysian Medical Relief Society (MERCY). Each organisation will receive RM5,186.15.
