WMSLEO's Chariity Night 2013: UNITE to L.I.G.H.T (Lives In Grief Hunger and Torture)
After four months of
hard work and sleepless nights, the day has arrived. 30th of March
2013 marked the 3rd annual Charity Dinner held by the LEO Club of
Wesley Methodist School. This project was served as a large scale community
service project to amass donations for unfortunate and unprivileged children.
This year, Charity
Night was attended by 340 people, mainly consisting of parents, teaching staff,
Lions, and students from our schools as well as our friends from outside WMS.
Our Guest-of-Honour for the evening was our very own District 308-B1 Governor,
Lion Chan Hoi, who was accompanied by his wife, Lion Hoo Sik Yen.

The event was
also graced with full support by ten representatives of the Lions Club of
Ampang, which is our sponsoring Lions Club as well as ten representatives from
one of our two beneficiaries, Malaysian Care. Unfortunately, representatives from
Assunta’s Children Society were unable to attend the event as they were about
to have Easter’s Celebration the next day.
The night consisted of
various performances by a few of our talented members, school students and
outside guests. The event first kick started with an opening video presentation
which relayed a message about our theme.
The meeting was then call to order by
the Presiding Officer, Lion Kevin Kiew, followed by a roll call session. After
speeches made respectively by the Guest-of-Honour and I, we proceeded with an
awarding ceremony from Lion Chan Hoi to commend the outstanding performances of
our LEOs this year.

The token of appreciation was then given out to the
Guest-of-Honour Lion Chan Hoi, Presiding Officer Lion Kevin Kiew, and Madam Evelyn, who is our school's Admin Manager as well as the representative of our School’s
Board of Management. Afterwards, a mock cheque presentation was carried out
with a representative from Malaysian Care. The meeting was adjourned
immediately after the presentation.
We
had a variety of performances, ranging from sketches, to song performances and
dances. Most of the songs were humanity in conjunction with the message we were
hoping to send across to our guests throughout the event, which was to lend a
helping hand to the under privileged in their hour of need.

As the guests were
enthralled by the jaw dropping performances held that evening, they also had
the chance to enjoy a spectacular 8-course dinner prepared by our spectacular
4-star venue, Corus Hotel.
The event ended with a finale done by the entire LEO
Club. Each of us have to sing a song entitled “No Boundaries”, which carried a
message to everyone present there that we need to go beyond our boundaries to
become stronger and better in life.

As
I have stressed from the start already, the two main reasons of this project
were to raise funds for the unfortunate children as well as to raise awareness
in everyone into giving back to society. We are certain that we harve achieved
these two goals as our grand total profit from this project has achieved an
amount of RM9380, despite it being slightly lower than last year’s profit from Charity Concert .
We are truly
ecstatic and proud of all our members who have worked immensely hard in making
this event a magnificent success. We believe that this project has been one of
our biggest acheivements thus far and have high hopes for all our upcoming
projects to be just as successful or even better.
