Leo Club of Wesley Methodist School Amazing Race - The Last Cast

The race was held on Saturday, March 22th 2014. All the participants gathered in school. First, registration took place as the participants met with their respective groups, collected their goodie bags and changed into the event T-shirt. Participants all looked excited and eager to start the race. They all wanted a shot to win the amazing prizes in store. After registration, participants gathered in the assembly ground for the opening ceremony.

First, a speech was given by the guest of honour, which was our vice principal, Madam Pearl Moses. Madam Pearl reminded the participants to ensure safety as their priority and advised them not to run during the race. She also prayed for the participants and for the smoothness of the event. Then, a briefing of the race was done by the organising committee. We briefed the participants on the rules and regulations of the race, and answered any questions or doubts from the participants. After that, the opening sketch on the movie casting was presented by our Leos. Elements of humour were incorporated inside the sketch and the participants enjoyed it. Once all the participants were ready, Madam Pearl officially flagged off the event for the Category 1 participants. Flag off for the Category 2 participants was done 15 minutes later. The participant’s first task was to break a code which was previously given to them. The code was the list of places the participants had to go throughout the race. Participants were all very eager to break the code, working hard to be efficient and fast. They had a lot of fun while doing so and we could see everyone starting to work as a team. Once they had broke the code, they could hand in their answers at the canteen to the Leos stationed there, and set off to the games situated in school.

In school, the participants had to complete two games before obtaining a clue to their next station and a piece of the storyline. The first game was called ‘Lucky Strike’, where participants have to toss as many coins as possible into a basin. Despite the long queue, the participants enjoyed the game. The second game was ‘Mathematical Test’; participants have to solve matchstick patterns based on the instructions pasted on the table. The participants worked very hard to solve the puzzles. After the second game, the participants made their way to the Sentul LRT station to go to the next station.

The next station was PWTC. After participants had reached there, they would be directed by our traffic marshals to the games there. The games were ‘Pop Quiz’ and ‘Confidence Booster’. There were a minimum of 3 lines each game. This was to prevent congestion of the participants. For ‘Pop Quiz’, participants had to answer questions related to movies, actors, actresses and some cartoon series. This proved to be a fun task for the participants, as the questions were able to bring back childhood memories of the participants.  For ‘Confidence Booster’, the participants had to pick a paper with lyrics in a box. They then have to sing those lyrics and guess the song name and the singer. Participants definitely enjoyed this game as their singing could be heard loud and clear. Then, they are given clues and storyline and set off to the next station, which was Bandaraya.

At the Bandaraya station, participants arrived at Bandaraya through LRT and proceeded to the games with instructions from traffic marshals. The games at Bandaraya station were ‘Speech Therapy’ and ‘Telepathy Skills’. At ‘Telepathy Skills’, the participants were given a word and had to make the same gesture or post in the count of three by the facilitators. Communication and teamwork were severely tested. However, with incredible patience and calm under fire attitude, participants managed to overcome the confusion and moved on to the next game. The participants had to say tongue twisters together without faltering for ‘Speech Therapy’. The participants were very eager to say the tongue twisters and despite having some trouble, they still enjoyed themselves. Then, the participants obtained a piece of the storyline and clues to their next station, which is Ampang Park.

With permission to use their compound, we were able to use Ampang Park for one of our games. The game was ‘Picture Perfect’. The participants travelled to Ampang Park by using the Kelana Jaya LRT line from Masjid Jamek as well as guidance from traffic marshals. Game facilitators were holding a board with 11 pictures of Leos with different poses. Participants had to take pictures of the same pose at the same place. This proved to be a fun game as the participants laughed at their teammates when they had to pose. The participants were then given a clue to go to MBS Sentul.

Back in MBS, the two games were ‘Fitness Test’ and ‘Dance Machine’. Participants were required to dribble a football between cones and then skip rope to obtain points. At the ‘Dance Machine’ station, participants had to learn how to dance from the facilitators. This was a fun station as the participants were eager to show the dance. Then, the participants went back to the school.

Back in school, the participants were to play another two games before handing in their booklets. The games were ‘The Kitchen’ and ‘Time Management’. A durian was placed at ‘The Kitchen’ to offer the participants a huge hint. Participants were given a recipe and they had to search for the ingredients by taking pictures of the ingredients given. ‘Time Management’ was a game that required understanding of watches as participants had to translate the watches as quickly as possible. With smart conclusions bubbling in their minds, participants were to arrange their storyline before handing in their booklets to the director, which was played by one of the Leos. After handing in the booklets, the race is officially to a close. The race ended at 12.30 accurately according to the schedule devised. The booklets are then marked by the organising committee and the winners were chosen based on the most points and the timing is taken into account with the answer as first priority.
