Annual LEO Induction 2024
On the 14th of August 2024, Wednesday, the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School organised an induction programme at the Wesley Hall from 3.30p.m to 530p.m. The objective of this event was to formally introduce the newly recruited members to the club and break the ice. It was also organised to give new members a positive impression of the LEO group and to inculcate in them a sense of belonging to the club. This event was led by the Organising Chairperson, LEO Venice Liang Kar Kei along with the Assistant Organising Chairperson, LEO Jayme Lee Yan Mae.
The event started with the Vice President, LEO Gwenyth Ong Wei Mun, giving an inspiring speech to our fellow members, sharing about her experiences as a LEO member for the past year and how the club has helped her in several aspects as a student, such as in character building and teaching her how to overcome challenges. Then, all members were briefed on the general information of the LEO Club, including our attire, our rules and regulations, our objectives, and so on. Based on everything the new LEO members learned, a quiz was conducted to help the new members understand about the club on a deeper level. After the quiz, the top scorers were announced, and the ones who got the lowest scores, 3 seniors and 3 juniors were punished by having to do three hearty lion roars on stage.
After the 3 hearty lion roars, a prize-giving session took place for the 3 top scorers of the quiz and each of them received a tote bag with goodies inside.
After that, the ice-breaking session began. All the LEO Club members, including the Board of Directors, were told to form a group of 3 people, with at least 1 senior and 1 junior. The members then played a game of house and squirrel, in which 2 people would raise their hands to act as a house, while 1 person stood in the middle to act as a squirrel. All members were then told to switch positions when either the words “house” or “squirrel” were called. “House” meaning the 2 people acting as a house would move to find another squirrel, and “Squirrel” meaning the person in the middle acting as a squirrel would move to find another house.
This small ice-breaking session acted as a way seniors and juniors could both get to know each other by approaching one another.
All in all, the event was a tremendous success. Our members undoubtedly grew closer and got to know each other better through this event.
