18th Annual Farewell: Once Upon A Roar
On the 1st September 2021, the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School held its 18th Annual Farewell virtually on Zoom from 2.15 p.m. to 5.15 p.m. The farewell was themed ‘Once Upon A Roar’. The theme ‘Once Upon A Roar’ depicts the memories created by the seniors throughout their journey as LEO members of the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School. The theme was derived from the iconic phrase 'once upon a time', which is usually used in fairy tales to signify the beginning of a story. In this context, we will be reminiscing about the dedication of our senior LEOs since the start of their fiscal year and concluding it all with the end of our farewell. The seniors had encountered hardships to ensure that we, the junior LEO members, enjoyed our time in the club. Through this theme, we hope that the seniors will carry along the LEO pride and persevere on their voyage with much spirit and enthusiasm as they begin a brand new chapter in their lives. This event was organized by the Organizing Chairperson, LEO Hoong Yuet Ching, who was assisted by her Assisting Organizing Chairperson, LEO Chung Ying Xin, together with the committee members LEO Andrea Leng Chern En, LEO Jovan Teoh Wen Tao, LEO Chai Tse Lei and LEO Poh Wei Jian.
The event kick-started off with the emcees inviting everyone present onboard a virtual ship, titled the ‘Adventure Through the Virtual Farewell’. The idea of the voyage was to bring the seniors and juniors along for a ride through all that the seniors have accomplished throughout the fiscal year. First off, we were graced with an opening performance put on by the Farewell Committee. They showcased mind-blowing magic tricks through a pre-recorded video, and it was safe to say that everyone was astonished and deeply humoured by it. Afterwards, a speech was given by the Organizing Chairperson, LEO Hoong Yuet Ching. She took upon the chance to express her utmost gratitude and appreciation to all the seniors for their contributions and sacrifices towards the LEO Club, and for entrusting her with this important role.
Moving on, we were presented with two instrumental singing performances. The first being ‘Arabian Nights’, from Aladdin, by LEO Allyson Tan and LEO Thang Wan Er. Then, followed up with a rendition of Carrie Underwood’s ‘Whenever You Remember’, performed by LEO Rachel Tham Wing Yern and LEO Hau Shen Ny. The song reflected all the great and hopeful times shared during the seniors’ time in the LEO Club. Taking a detour from all the mellifluous singing performances, LEO Quay Ding Rong and LEO Chew Evangeline granted us a performance of ITZY’s ‘Wannabe’. Both junior members showed off the fluidity in their steps during the short 1-minute 39-second dance cover, leaving us all wanting more. Last up on the performance list, we were presented with yet another melodious singing performance - ‘I See The Light’, by LEO Wong Zixin and her partner, LEO Laura Ang Zi Qing. In between performances, a speech was given by our newly-inducted president, LEO Quay Ding Rong. He, too, expressed his gratitude and admiration towards the seniors’ dedication towards the club and vowed to do his very best to uphold this hugely responsible, formidable leadership role given to him with trust.
We were accompanied by a game session, and everyone was in fits of laughter with the exciting games. The members were separated into 11 teams named after 11 Disney characters including Tarzan, Dory, Olaf, Stitch, Baymax, Pooh, Goofy, Simba, Maleficent, Bambi and Woody. Many games were played during the hour and a half, such as Garticphone, Read Ma Lips, Now You See Me, Telepathy, Hidden Gem, Let’s Fun Song, Esrever and 10 Seconds Logic Game. Furthermore, to add a little spice to the games, the Farewell Committee introduced an ‘Advantage’ system. If the team had finished the game earlier than the time given, someone would have to turn on their mic and shout out the iconic yet familiar-to-all phrase, ‘Roar! Roar! Roar!’ Only then, a mini-game would be played, in which an advantage would be given to the team that had won the mini-game. The competition was tense, and the results were close; but finally, Team Bambi emerged as the true winner of the games session. Team members would include LEO Wong Xin Ping Xandra, LEO Wong Li Anne, LEO Ng Qi Zhi and LEO Tan Jun Yu.

After everyone had returned to the main session, the junior members put together a memorable video presentation. The video showcased a collection of pictures and videos of the LEO members. Everyone watched on with a taste of bittersweetness and joy as the members reminisced on what they had accomplished throughout their eventful LEO journey.
Following the video presentation, the outgoing - and favourable - President, LEO Joshua Chong Yong Ping, delivered a meaningful speech, expressing his gratitude towards his friends and Faculty Advisors for guiding him and being by his side throughout the fiscal year 2020/2021. Subsequently, the members were then entertained by an interview carried out by the senior Board of Directors. It was an interesting video, as the senior Board of Directors answered several questions with witty yet knowledgeable answers which captured the members’ attention. Lastly, a surprise video collage made by the juniors was specially prepared and presented to the seniors. The video formed a sweet message, showing appreciation to the senior members for being in the club, and wishing them all the very best for their IGCSEs and future endeavours.
The Annual 18th Farewell officially ended at 5.15 p.m. after a group picture was taken to commemorate the event. Everyone had an incredible time reflecting on all the memories made whilst in the club. All in all, the event was a tremendous success, as we managed to say our goodbyes and blessings to our beloved senior members.
