Minor Funding Event: Shishi no houkou

On the 6th November 2021,  the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School held their minor funding project for the fiscal year 2021/2022 from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. This event uses an online carnival concept with Japanese-themed games and movies for the participants to freely move about in the server and enjoy themselves. The theme of the event was “Shishi no houkou” which means the phrase “Roar of the Lion'' in Japanese. It also symbolises strength and liveliness. Besides that, we want this event to have a festive atmosphere, which will help students to relax and enjoy themselves in our event. This event was led by the Organizing Chairperson, LEO Poh Wei Jian, who was assisted by the Assisting Organizing Chairperson, LEO Amber Ong Sze Qi, together with the committee members, LEO Lim Yen Nie, LEO Tai Kenji, and LEO Allyson Tan.

The main purpose of this event was to help the students release their stress before the

IGCSE First Term Assessment as well as to encourage them to take a break after hours of studying. Furthermore, it was to prepare the LEO members for a new fiscal year while raising funds for the club’s future usages.

The event was held online through Discord. There was a movie segment, a game segment, and a lucky draw segment. In addition to the event, a mochi sale was held online on a pre-order basis. There were 3 different sets to order from, and each set consisted of different flavoured mochi. The sets of mochi were sold at RM 5.00 per set.

The event’s opening ceremony was started by the Assisting Organizing Chairperson, LEO Amber Ong Sze Qi who briefed about the rules and regulations of the event. This was then followed by a speech by the Organizing Chairperson, LEO Poh Wei Jian, who expressed his appreciation to all the participants for supporting the LEO Club’s event during this pandemic. There were a total of 8 game stations that offered a variety of Japanese-themed carnival games. These games helped the participants to earn prizes and lucky draw tickets.

The games included were Anime Trivia, Excel Art Online, Typing With You, Gotta Guess Em All!, One Draw Man, Zoom The Infinity, Naruto’s Shuriken, and Toradoramu. Movies like “Howl’s moving castle”, “Your name”, “Ponyo”, “Spirited Away”, “Josee, the tiger and the fish” and “Mugen Train” were played while the games were ongoing. Participants were allowed to freely move through any of the game stations and movie stations to enjoy themselves throughout the event.

Towards the end of the event, a lucky draw session was held. Lee Zi Han and Aaron Phoon En Jie were the two lucky winners who won themselves a Banpresto Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Vibration Stars - Tanjiro Kamado figurine and a Banpresto Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Vibration Stars - Nezuko Kamado figurine.

On the 22nd November and 29th November, the committee members arrived at school at 7:00 a.m. and started the days off by arranging the mochi packages and delivering them to the respective classes. Tasks were delegated accordingly and by 7:50 a.m., all orders and prizes were delivered and distributed. The committee members packed up and headed back to their classes before lessons started at 8:00 a.m.

To conclude, the event was a stupendous one and ended with a buoyant mood. We also managed to raise sufficient funds for the club and achieved the objectives of this event. The members of the LEO Club managed to gain new experience and bond with each other. The LEO Club is grateful for the teachers and students who have supported this event, and the members for their hard work and dedication.
