Online Urban Escape 2021: Unravel the Unknown

Sweet!
On the 27th February 2021, Saturday, the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School organized its first ever online major funding event - Online Urban Escape 2021, with the theme “Unravel the Unknown” from 8.00 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. The major funding event was led by the Organizing Chairperson, LEO Tham Zhan Chern, who was assisted by his two Assistant Organizing Chairpersons, LEO Teoh Han Yang and LEO Ong Zhi Qing Natalie, together with committee members, LEO Yau Jing Xiang, LEO Joshua Tan Zi Xuan and LEO Low Wei Tong. The club's very first Online Urban Escape involved a total of 38 teams which consisted of 109 participants.

The objectives of this event were to raise funds for future events and community service events of the LEO Club of Wesley Methodist School, and to develop teamwork and problem solving skills among the participants. It also provided a getaway for participants during the weekend. Throughout the event, the participants were given roles as programmers to help the main character, Sheryl Kuang Xin Shui, to escape the Gaming World that she was absorbed into at the Lightning Fast Arcade Company.

In this event, the students from Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International) had to form teams of two or three, and delve together into the Gaming World through the Discord platform. The winning team will be judged based on the points accumulated throughout the event. The participants were required to complete a series of games to obtain video clips and clues that will aid them throughout their journey.

Funding Director, at your service!
The event started with the registration of participants at 8.00 a.m. sharp on the Online Urban Escape 2021 Discord server. The participants then proceeded to the opening ceremony that was held through Facebook Live. A video presentation of the rules and regulations were shown to the participants. Following a speech by the event’s organizing chairperson, LEO Tham Zhan Chern, and an opening video outlining the storyline, participants were flagged off at 9.25 a.m.

The first game was a puzzle solving game where participants had to match various patterns to their respective clues. Participants were then tasked to solve a riddle which pointed out the symbols’ alphabetical arrangement. With this information, participants were able to decode a secret message at the end of Game 1. Throughout the event, participants were given digital game documents, video clips, and clues as they completed multiple levels of games. The event ended at 2.30 p.m. and all participants managed to accomplish all the games.

Throughout the whole event, LEO members played their roles as Moderators to facilitate each team. The Board of Directors were also given duties to handle their respective teams, while the committee members were assigned to patrol and handle all teams. Furthermore, our faculty advisors were invited to assist in maintaining order throughout the duration of the event.

To sum everything up, our first ever Online Urban Escape was a tremendous success and it was undoubtedly an invaluable experience to all the LEO members as it was the club’s first major event of the fiscal year. Our club would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the participants who took part in this event. Not to forget, we are also immensely grateful to all our generous sponsors who played a huge part in making this event possible. Without their help and support, none of this would have come to fruition. Furthermore, we would like to give a  huge thank you to our club members for putting this event together as a club, and also to our organizing committee who gave their all for this event. We hope all the participants enjoyed our Online Urban Escape and we look forward to seeing them again in our upcoming events!

Thank you, sponsors!

Hope the participants enjoyed the games!
